MEASURING YOUR HOME FOR CARPET

the initial thing to do when estimating for areas of carpet or flooring is to draw out on a piece of paper a blueprint of all the perspective areas you are going to carpet. Don’t worry about measurements at the moment this will come later. just quickly draw the rooms roughly to the shape they are it does not have to be too in depth just a rough shape will be fine if you have stairs draw them as a long rectangular shape and write how many stairs make sure you map the rooms and the stairs like a plan so it looks like your looking down from above
now you have your plan start to take all the measurements, remember when estimating check that you have allowed for all the widest points. Have an idea of which way the carpet or flooring will run and where you may have to put joins, if seams are necessary to plan them to go in parts of the room where there is not much traffic, avoid putting them right in the middle of a doorway. remember always make sure all your carpet goes the same way especially if it has a rib
start to work out how much material you will need start off with the simple bits first start with areas that are just one cut no joins etc. Work out if there will be any spare carpets from these areas and will this excess carpet fit any other areas. Tick off on your plan all the areas you have allowed for, look at the smaller areas and group them together so that you can order one piece of material that will cut up into all the smaller areas.
